Bespoke protection scaffold was designed by PHD’s in-house design team to keep the Chemical Pipe Track completely protected from any removals work and no scaffold was to touch any part of the pipe track.

WHAT WE SUPPLIED

Extensive protection fans were erected to ensure that no debris could fall onto the live area and all boards were positioned close together so that gaps were less than 10mm.

Scaffolding was erected on the North end of the plant Reformer and treaded through the existing pipework with Tube & Fitting which was cantilevered off part of a pipe rack.

CHALLENGES

Due to the proximity of flammable chemicals and the risks associated with that, all scaffolding had fire-retardant metal boards and fire-retardant monoflex for the external façade. Scaffold structures were also built inside the furnaces for the removals work.

This site was very challenging as working temperatures were very hot. All operatives had specialist CCNSG Safety Passport training and confined spaces training to work on the site. The redundant reformer which was being dismantled consisted of refractory brick which contained ceramic fibre carcinogenic which our operatives had to be aware of.
