Sub-Service: Clean Room Capability
PHD has gained extensive experience working in sensitive controlled environments for our pharmaceutical and data clients. This has led us to establishing a capability to offer scaffolds built to reliable Clean Room Level PL3 and PL4 protocols.
What is a Clean Room?
A room in which the concentration of airborne particles is controlled, and which is constructed and used in a manner to minimise the introduction, generation, and retention of particles inside the room and in which other relevant parameters, such as temperature, humidity and pressure are controlled, as necessary.

Works within the Pharma and Data industries
Throughout the years, PHD has worked for high-profile clients and projects within the pharmaceutical and data sector, including Astra Zeneca for Skanska, BP Chemical Plant for Robertson & Birdsell, Dragon’s Heart Hospital in Cardiff, WuXi Data Centre, GSK, and two Facebook Data Centres in Ireland.
The requirements needed for PL3 and PL4 protocols are as below:
PL3
The following must be worn in a cleanroom area Blue over Shoe’s, one pair of Kevlar gloves covered over with Latex Gloves, Hair & Beard nets, and Hard hats to be wiped clean.
All materials to be brand new, unpainted and must be cleaned and be passed through an ultraviolet light before entering the cleanroom, if there is any dust or debris of the materials this must be re-cleaned and sent back through before it can be used. All boards are to be plastic and again new. If materials need to be cut to size this has to be done outside of the cleanroom and the cut end must be sealed with a plastic cap or board end.
PL4
The following must be worn and put on in order to enter PL4 cleanroom, Blue over Shoe’s, one pair of Kevlar gloves covered over with Latex Gloves, Hair & Beard nets and Hard hats to be wiped clean. This will get you through the PL3 then the following must be put on, Full Face white balaclava complete with white dust proof overalls and white hard sole overshoe’s your body has to be fully covered see attached picture.
